Igor Levit

Born 1987 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. At the age of 6, he demonstrated his precociousness by debuting with an orchestra. At the age of 8, he moved with his family to Germany and graduated from the Hanover Music Academy with the highest grades ever. He has studied under Karl-Heinz Kemalink, Matti Raecarlio, Bernd Goetzke, and Hans Reigraf. Since 2003, he has received grants from the German National Learning Foundation and the German Music Foundation.

In 2005, he won four prizes at the Rubinstein International Piano Competition, although he was the youngest participant. In 2004, he won the 2nd prize at the Maria Callas International Competition (Athens) and the 1st prize at the Hamamatsu International Piano Academy Competition.

He has worked with many world-class orchestras and conductors, including the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra under Andris Nelsons, the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra under John Axelrod, and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Christian Vazquez. He has also been invited to give recitals at Radialsystem (Berlin), Ruhr Piano Festival, Rheingau Festival, Beethoven Fest (Bonn), Schumann Fest (Dusseldorf), and Stuttgart Festival. In addition to recitals and chamber music concerts at the "Kissingen Summer" music festival, he has frequently appeared in concerts with the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Spivakov. An enthusiastic chamber musician, he has performed with leading artists such as Lisa Batiashvili, François Leroux, Valérie Sokolov, Gautier & Renaud Capuçon, Mischa Maisky, Maxim Vengerov, Lawrence Power, Maximilian Hornung, Tabea.・Scheduled to co-star with Zimmermann at the Beethoven Hall Bonn.

He has given many recitals at the Cologne Philharmonic, Luxembourg Philharmonic, Megaron Athens, Stockholm Concert Hall, Louditori (Barcelona), Birmingham Symphony Hall, Budapest Arts Hall, Baden-Baden Festival Theater, Sage Gateshead, etc. schedule. Levitt is also resident artist at the 2013 Spring Festival in Heidelberg, recital at the festival, artistic director of the Chamber Music Academy, and soloist at the festival concerts with the German Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra of Bremen, conducted by Roger Norrington. Selected as a BBC New Generation Artist and as a participating artist in the 2012-2013 season of the ECHO Rising Stars series, he is expected to continue to perform at Beaux Arts in Brussels, the Barbican Center in London, and other venues in the future. In October 2012, he signed an exclusive artist contract with Sony Classical, and plans to release Beethoven's work in the fall of 2013.
