2010 Munich International Music Competition Complete Winner! Czech prodigy following genius Baborák
Přemysl Vojta is recognized worldwide as one of the preeminent horn players of his generation. In 2010, he won the 1st prize at the ARD Munich International Music Competition and made headlines. In 2011, he made a very successful debut at the Beethoven Festival and was awarded the Beethoven Ring Award.
Born in 1983 in Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic, started playing the horn at the age of 10 under Olga Voldanova. From 1998 to 2004, he studied at the Prague Conservatory with Bedřich Tirschal, then moved to Germany. In 2008, he became a research student at the Dresden State Opera Orchestra. He is also taught by André Casale, Michael Herzel, Peter Damm, Zdenek Tilsal and others. Awarded by the Villa Musica Foundation and the Paul Hindemith Society of Berlin. While still a university student, he has performed with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the EU Youth Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, and others. From 2010 to 2015, he taught at the Berlin University of the Arts, and from 2015 to 2017, at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
As a soloist, he has performed with the Academy Chamber Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Wiesbaden State Theater Orchestra and Prague Philharmonia. He has given many recitals at major music festivals, including the Bonn Beethoven Festival, the Prague Spring International Music Festival, the Mitte Europe Music Festival, and the Mount Olympus Festival (Saint Petersburg).
After serving as principal of the Berlin Konzerthausorchester and Berlin State Opera Orchestra, he is currently principal of the Cologne WDR Symphony Orchestra.
In addition, he has released several CDs with pianists Tobias Koch and Tomoko Sawano, and has consistently received praise from critics. The latest album is "Michael & Joseph Haydn: Horn Concerto (Co-starring: Haydn Ensemble Prague)" released in 2018.
